MY ADVICE:

Each of the different styles of 5” posing shoes can fit and feel quite differently on - and that can be vary greatly from person to person. Your priority in selecting your shoes should be comfort and stability, rather than visual appeal. Competitors, I promise you, no one (especially the judges) will notice your feet or your shoes on stage, but they will certainly notice your poise, presentation and posing. In fact, that is one of the criteria you are scored on! The comfort of your posing shoes is a major contributor to your stage presence.

The plastic on posing shoes feels rigid at first, but softens up quite nicely. They will not overly stretch like a leather product, but there will be some give. A comfortably snug fit is best to provide a secure, stable fit and ensure that when the plastic stretches slightly, these shoes will be perfect on stage day.

With that said, here are some tips to consider with the Ankle Strap with Gems style:

  • This is a popular choice for first time competitors and veterans alike. Whether physical or psychological, the security provided by an additional strap can be of great value.
  • This shoe has a neutral arch position and works well for most women.
  • Most women find this ankle strap style slightly more generous in width at the front of the foot than the other ankle strap style (the clear one). If you are concerned that you have a wide foot, this might be the better shoe style for you.

Myth: “The ankle strap draws the eye in and can create a visual break in the leg line”. Simply not true. I’ve spent countless hours checking out the fitness competitors on stages to see if their shoe styles stood out - they don’t! Judges are looking at your physique and presentation on stage, not your shoes or your feet! Remember, comfort and stability over visual appeal.

Popularity: In eight years of providing competition posing shoes to athletes across Canada, over 50% of ladies choose an ankle strap style.
